Yoga, of all the physical activities I have been involved in, offers a unique physical experience. The movements seek to unite your possibly disparate parts: body, mind, spirit. Work, day-to-day experiences in simple contexts like driving, shopping for food and being in a traffic jam, can create internal division where the mind is off and running; the body is tense; the spirit is bogged down. Through pranayama (breath work), invigorating poses, and mindful movement, yoga offers a unique possibility of re-unification with the self.
A practice you can meet at home
This weekly online class is a genre of yoga called Vinyasa, which simply means a flowing, ever-evolving series of poses. Unlike repetitive sequences, Vinyasa offers the full menu of poses, never limiting the practitioner in variety and movement. Despite the flowing sequence, the calm that comes from laser-sharp attention to movement is a welcome change from a hectic life.
Each gathering will include grounding, unhurried movement, breath awareness, rest, and will follow a basic structure: Pranayama (breath work), a warmup, a variable and flowing sequence, balancing on one foot, core exercises, back bending or back stretching (as per your preference), floor sequences, and Savasana or corpse pose. Clear options and variations will make room for different bodies, energy levels, and experience.

Props and space
Recommend two wooden blocks, a strap, a yoga mat and kleenex. Ideally you have the space of two yoga mats so you can move on either side of the mat.
Accessibility and new participants
This practice is very adaptable to all levels, body types and mobility challenges. General fitness and willingness are required. Basic injuries can be adapted for, but participants must be mobile and healthy.
Practising safely
Any physical activity requires self-responsibility and awareness that your body is your primary guide and teacher, I am simply facilitating that. Please use kindness and self-assessment with all movements.
